I’m in love with the coco! Coconut oil isn’t just for cooking, you know. From taming away flyaway hairs, to spreading on your morning toast, this gift from mother nature is all the rave and I’m whole-heartedly jumping on the coconut band-wagon. Unlike many other cooking products — it’s free of chemicals and all natural, baby! Today, I’m sharing my favorite ways to incorporate coconut oil into your daily lifestyle — Don’t forget to share your favorites in the comments. I love hearing from you! XO
HAIR MASK
This is the perfect addition to your summer beauty regime! At room temperature, the oil is solid, but when you use it in the shower, it’ll turn to liquid. After shampooing, apply some oil to your wet strands, twist into a bun, and let sit for 5 minutes before rinsing. It’s incredible what this stuff does to add shine, and bounce. I’m hooked! I know people who like to leave it in as a leave-in-conditioner treatment, too! Oh, and say goodbye to frizz while you’re at it. PS: Dab a little on your eyebrows for growth — I’m in the process of this now, so I’ll let you know the final result.
MAKEUP REMOVER
Just a teaspoon or less, can take off a day’s worth of makeup with ease! Again, no chemicals. This is huge for your skin! Massage a dab of warm coconut oil straight onto your skin, and watch your makeup melt away — rinse with warm water. If you want to plan ahead, make your own coconut oil makeup-remover pads! This is a great DIY. Now, go ahead and buy yourself a cocktail with all the money you’re going to save.
BODY SCRUB
I’ve got an addiction to bubble-baths, and cannot complete my night without one. I’ve recently discovered that coconut oil makes the perfect body scrub! Seriously, my skin has never felt better. (You would think I’m a spokesperson for this stuff, but I just get really excited when I can save a few bucks!) How: Mix a half cup of sea salt/sugar with an equal amount of oil and use your hands to rub over any rough patches of skin. If you’re like me, and prefer extra tough scrub, add a little salt and scrub on your feet/elbows. You’ll not only smell amazing, but your skin will feel like a baby’s bum!
SHAVING CREAM
Oh, hello gorgeous legs! I’m constantly running out of shaving cream, so coconut oil to the rescue! Warm your jar under water, and rub onto your legs before shaving. I would recommend shaving outside the shower (your hands will be less slipper, and it’ll be easier to shave) — but the final result? Smooth, gorgeous legs. Take that, shaving cream.
CUTICLE SOFTENER + LIP BALM
Simply swipe a small amount of oil onto each of your cuticles and allow it to soak. Sit back, relax and watch your nails strengthen, and hydrate — making your hands feel and look more youthful than ever before! I also use oil on my lips, it’s a great hydrator and it smells oh-so-good! You can purchase the travel-tubes at your local drug-store, so you can transport everywhere.
I’m OBSESSED with coconut oil! It’s the only thing I use to take my makeup off! I can’t use it on my hair (too greasy), but when my skin is really dry, I use it as a moisturizer! Plus – cooking with it is awesome and coconut oil fudge is my favorite dessert to whip up 🙂
