This week has certainly presented some challenges for me. Now that I’m a mother (to the sweetest baby girl ever!) I look at life completely differently. Quite frankly: My decisions will always impact Harlow’s. This includes the people I choose to surround myself with, and beyond. Generally speaking, my circle is a beautiful one. I have the most loving husband, and father to our beautiful baby girl. I have beautiful friendships (15+ years and counting) the most supportive mother on the planet, and 3 crazy sisters that resemble an episode of ‘Keeping up With the Kardashians’ (there have been purses flying at each other, yes). I love ‘em, I do.
Unfortunately, I’ve had a few people in my life whom I would classify as toxic. (Don’t we all?) It’s part of life, I know. What I realize now, more than ever — there’s beauty in walking away. (Blood or not) I’m a very forgiving person. My mom tells me it’s a gemini thing, ha. Whatever the case — some people are poison. No matter how much you care for them, they’re just not meant to be in your life. No matter how many chances you’ve given, there comes a point where it’s time to let go. Not only for me, but for my daughter. I want Harlow to be surrounded by kind-hearted people. People who are genuinely happy for her, her passions & milestones. Most importantly — they make her feel good.
This week, I let go. I finally let go of their negativity and exchanged it with positivity. I woke up happy, and confident. Not only for me, but for my daughter. A few important things to consider:
Signs It’s Time to Remove Toxic People From Your Life:
- You talk about them a lot: This takes energy, unhealthy energy. Talking about them when they’re not around just gives them more power over your life. I was so guilty of this!
- You don’t feel good when you’re with them: If they’re not making you feel good about yourself, it’s probably time to move on. This leads to dreading your time together. This obviously consumes a lot of time, and energy. Is it really necessary?
- You stoop to their level: Stooping to a toxic person’s isn’t an effective coping strategy. It doesn’t make you feel better either (trust me). I’ve learned to be the bigger person.
Additionally, you may not be able to rid these people completely — I understand that, too. There are ways to cope if you have to surround yourself with them. (A co-worker, etc) Is this something you’d be interested in? I know this is a bit different from my upbeat posts, but I always choose to be real with you, and that’s where I am this week!
