Best practices/products for springtime/summer hair Q+A

What is the biggest mistake you see women make with their hair?

I am a firm believer in a quality heat protectant before any blow dry or finishing service. Use a pre-heat product such as Kérastase Nutritive Nectar Thermique, which offers the benefits of heat protection, and Fibre Architecte as a post blow-out serum before flat ironing or curling. It smoothes the cuticle and makes for a really beautiful finish to compromised or brittle ends.

What are some best practices for keeping hair healthy/strong in the spring/summer months?

Humidity is not on our side in Chicago! Use an anti-humidity styling product such as Kérastase Creme de la Creme. It gives volume, adds definition and holds on a rainy day. For dry hair, try an anti humidity product, such as Laque Noire, and then add Touch Perfection which serves as a replenishing balm (to minimize flyalways and frizz) and offers heat-protection, smoothness, shine and movement.

What are some springtime/summer trends you foresee this year? I know braids have been insanely popular!  Additionally: What are 5 hair trends to try this season?

Yes, braids are definitely “in,” but they’re not for everyone! Shorter (mid length) hair is back! Try contouring and complimenting the face shape with soft A-line, subtle layers, also working with you natural wave. At Sassoon we love “hair versatility.” This is when you’re able to wash and wear it sleek and straight for some occasions and dazzle it up with soft waves for others.

What is your favorite shampoo/conditioner?! I know it is something I continue to struggle with — I can’t find one that works well on my hair!

As shampoo differs for everyone, you first want to figure out what your hair needs the most. I recommend Kérastase Densifique Densimorphose Mousse as it ensures smoothness and color preservation. We also use Davines LOVE shampoo and conditioner, as it’s also a great line for curly hair.

What are some easy ways to protect your hair from sun damage?

If you plan to spend some time in the sun, apply an intensive hair mask, such as Kérastase Masque UV Defense Active. The mask will seal in moisture, while the style will complement an effortless look.

Personally, I struggle with holding curls — Any advice for stubborn hair?

Start with jelly-based products such as Kérastase Volumifique Shampoo and Conditioner and when styling, tease the hair in large sections with a soft hold hairspray. While brushing it out, flip your hair over and spray it with V.I.P from Kérastase (its my absolute favorite!). The “VIP” stands for Volume In Powder, as it’s a texturizing spray in a can.

What are 5 “must have” products for the spring/summertime season?

I know a lot of people struggle with growing their hair out — any tricks to growing longer locks?

A lot of people rave about the vitamin “Biotin” as it keeps hair, skin and nails healthy. Like Momma once said, “Take your vitamins!” ☺ Additionally, use a deep conditioner once a week. Kérastase offers the Fusio Dose treatment you can customize to you hair needs.

What treatments are worth the splurge at Sassoon?

Again, Fusio Dose from Kérastase does wonders! It’s a simple and easy-to-use leave-in treatment for the salon or at home! Visit here for more information
