Yes, You Can | Open Letter

For anyone who’s feeling discouraged, lost or stuck — This is for you.

Dear You,

One day, you’re going to look back at your life, and regret listening to that ‘nobody’ who thought they knew you. News flash: They didn’t. Whoever is saying, ‘you can’t’ — They’re wrong. You can do anything, and everything — you just have to put your mind to it. Stop letting the opinions of others deter your journey, because it’s a waste of time. Stay hungry. Stay focused. Stay positive. Stay the course. A few things to remember along the way:

  • Stop worrying about what everyone else is doing — do you.
  • Stop worrying about not being included in everything — do you.
  • Stop letting the opinions of others halt your visions — do you.
  • Stop letting your social media following determine your worth — it doesn’t. (Who knows if it will still be around years down the road!)
  • Once you let go of all the bullshit, you’re going to flourish and grow.
  • When one opportunity closes, another one is waiting.
  • Don’t ever give up.
  • Have fun. Once you stop having fun, it starts to become ‘work’

These people probably won’t be in your life down the road, so stop listening to them. Be proud of every accomplishment — big/small. You have to learn to be your own biggest cheerleader, and always rely on yourself. Some days are going to be tough — like, really tough. It’s during these triumphs that will determine your worth. Don’t let them destroy what you’ve built. You’ve come so incredibly far, and you’ll continue to grow. The less time you focus on everyone else — the more time you’ll have to build a bigger identity. Keep working until you no longer have to introduce yourself. Keep striving through the storm. Keep believing in yourself. I repeat: keep believing in yourself. Once you stop, they win. (I sound like DJ Khaled, but maybe he’s onto something, ha!)

Sometimes, we need a little encouragement / pep talk. When everything seems to be going wrong, there’s always something to be grateful for. Hang on tight, babes. The ride is just beginning. You an do it!
