Mexican Restaurants Geneva IL
Bien Trucha *TOP PICK*
OK, so I’ve already shared about this gem in my Geneva IL restaurants roundup BUT — it’s my absolute favorite restaurant of all time. Not even the city can compete. In fact, I’ve had numerous friends come into town just to experience the dining here. Some of my favorites include the ‘De Rajas Con Chorizo’ (roasted poblano strips, chorizo, onions, cream fresca, cheese and tortillas) — if you’re a cheese fanatic like myself, embrace. The Manzana salad is always a must – the cartelized pecans are out of this world good. As for tacos, there’s no wrong turn. Although, the Bien Trucha (skirt steak, chorizo, roasted tomatillo salsa) will always be my number one love. The slow roasted pork belly comes in a very very close second. Don’t forget to order the churros for dessert! Ridiculously delicious! View menu here.
Mexcaleria Del Barrio
I really admire this spot for the fun atmosphere and delicious food. The chef makes the tortillas in house and the homemade chips are delicious! Let’s be real — we all eat our weight in chips at any Mexican restaurant! I have yet to try, but I’ve heard the elote Is phenomenal. Definitely get the queso fundido (can you tell my obsession with cheese yet?) because it’s the perfect start to the meal. The shrimp taco will not disappoint, and the drinks are really good. If you’re looking for a fun hangout spot with friends/happy hour – I’d definitely recommend this spot!
Altiro Latin Fusion
These dishes are prepared in a tapas-style way, inspired by Spain’s tapas which are small Spanish savory dishes. I went here for my birthday dinner, and really enjoyed it. A lot of people compare Altrio Lation Fusion to Bien Trucha — although similar, they definitely bring their own spin to their cuisine. They have locations in Roscoe, West Chicago, Geneva, and La Grange. All vegetables and fruits arrive fresh daily, ingredients are bought locally (love that) and meat is free of hormones. The Geneva il restaurant features an outdoor patio which is beyond fun in the summer months. A few of my favorites include the Ala Poblana, Altiro tacos (pan seared tilapia, mango salsa, pico-cucumber, arugula, chipotle aioli and Altiro vinagreta) — ok, what! and the Al Arroz Verde is prepared perfectly. So grateful to have these guys in the community!
El Molcajete on 3rd
I think what sets El Molcajete apart from the rest is the adorable rooftop dining option. It benefits from tasty food, fast service and a fun atmosphere. Personally, I enjoy coming here for a drink with the girls – and the guac is super delicious! The guacamole of the day is always a hit (the chipotle and goat cheese is insane) for only $8. The taco sampler is my go-to because you’re able to have a little bit of everything you’re in the mood for. They also have a HUGE menu, something for everyone (including the kids). Make sure to save room for the fried ice cream. Yum! PS: 25% discount to all military, police, EMS, and fire department personnel with ID. What a great way to give back to the community. PSS: HALF PRICE MARGARITAS ON THURSDAYS!
Sergios Cantina
If you’re looking for live music, weekly specials and an outdoor patio — this is the place to go! Additionally: If you text ‘TACO’ to 223344 you can get either 1/2 price taquitos or 1/2 price fried ice cream (yasss!) They also have a happy hour Monday-Friday from 3-5 which includes 1/2 price menu ($4 nachos, $4 quesadillas, $3 fresh quest dip, $3.50 house margarita, $3.75 mule and more). Therefore, this is a great place to go if you’re looking to save some $ but still enjoy some food out. Make sure to check-out the full menu here, it’s long and plentiful!
Taco Madre
A great option if you’re looking for a fast bite. Definitely recommend this for lunch! No server, order at the counter and you’re on your way. I personally love the simplicity of the American taco: cheese, lettuce and tomato. The gourmet tacos are definitely good, too! (I don’t recommend the shrimp, because I’m a snob when it comes to seafood) Check-out the full menu here.
