Happy Monday, friends. I’m loving my new Monday Motivation series to get us pumped for a great week! (ICYMI: how to get over a breakup) — It’s easy to get lost in the Monday blues. Today, I’m talking about something we can all relate to — the bad day. This past Saturday, I had to face some challenges; but, Instead of letting things consume me, I took control. (Easier said than done, I know!) PS: No matter how glamorous life looks behind the lens, we’re all human. We are all battling something day to day — that’s why you should always be kind to one another, you never know what someone is going through. Sending everyone light, and love this week! Shine bright!
WALK BAREFOOT IN THE GRASS
I know this one sounds bazar, right?! Here’s something I just learned: exposing your skin to the ground can stimulate energy, and boost happiness. It feels like yesterday I was running around my neighborhood barefoot with no cares in the world! If you’re having a bad day, take a few minutes to grab some fresh air, and dig your toes into the grass. The earth is powerful — so utilize it!
DEEP BREATHING
I’ve talked about this before — but the power of breathing is everything! I swear by the 4-7-8 exercise (close your mouth and inhale through your nose, count to four. Hold your breath for a count of seven seconds, and exhale through your mouth while making a ‘whooshing’ sound for eight). Short breaths occur when we’re stressed, and they send signals to our brain causing discomfort, and anxiety. I personally love meditation videos on Youtube (they’re free!) and calm me down in those chaotic moments. Take long breaths.
Ha, this one may be a personal preference — but, I always gravitate toward my ‘Words of Wisdom’ board on Pinterest. Sometimes, I just need some uplifting advice. Oh, and I am always down for some creative inspiration!
WATCH A FUNNY VIDEO
I mean, who doesn’t love to laugh? Sometimes, we just need a funny break (especially in corporate where things can be so serious!) Youtube has the ‘daily aw’ section on the popular page where they’re constantly uploading cuteness! (I live on it, promise). This video is another favorite, I dare you not to laugh! Buzzfeed is another go-to!
TAKE A SHOWER
Obviously if your’e at the office, this may not be an option. But, if you’re having a rough weekend (like me) — then take a minute to soak away those sorrows! Taking a quick shower, (especially one where you alternate cold, and hot water) can increase energy levels, and circulation. Bubble-tub lovers, jump in! Sometimes, we just need to escape reality for a few minutes hours.
SIGN OFF
Many studies have shown that checking social media can actually trigger depression because we constantly compare ourselves to our peers. This is totally true for me in the blogging world — It’s easy to get lost in what everyone else is doing. Sign off for a bit, and recharge. If you’re having a bad day, and scroll through social media — guarantee something will trigger negative thoughts. Limit your exposure throughout the day. PS: You’re usually comparing your life to someone’s ‘highlight reel’. We usually don’t post on those off days!
GIVE A HUG
Reach out to a close friend, family member, or hey — even a stranger! and give/get a hug. Health providers actually use touch as a form of energy healing for a faster recovery. Funny story: I was walking down Michigan Avenue the other day, where 2 teenage boys were holding up a ‘free hug’ sign. I immediately had a smile on my face after hugging them! I just love that they’re spreading positive energy in a city that needs it most. Unicorn world for a second: Can you imagine if we replaced all violence with hugs? Woa.
PET AN ANIMAL
Find a dog-park, or give your local pet-shelter a visit and spread some love. Petting an animal can dramatically increase your mood, and positivity. Canine therapy is used in hospitals, schools and beyond. You guys have to check-out this video — sums it up pretty well! I remember not too long ago, Uber teamed up with a local animal shelter for a ‘kitten delivery service’ — You could donate to the animal shelter, and play with kittens for 30 minutes! A win-win — brilliant move from our favorite car service!
Remember, this too shall pass! Whatever you’re going through is temporary. Tomorrow is a new day — Sending you love! You got this! XX
Love this! Deep breathing sounds so corny, but it always works for me!
thanks, love!! xx
