Winter pregnancy with a toddler has certainly been interesting! My little cutie is a walking germ-sponge and we’ve seen our fair share of sick days! I don’t have any help with Harlow right now (besides my amazing hubby!) so I’ve been balancing work in the circus ring with my vibrant, energetic two-year-old! I’m 28 weeks pregnant (going so quickly!) and I’m just now realizing how important it is to put my needs first so I can take care of my family. With all of my attention going to mom life and business, I started to feel extremely run-down. I knew I had to make some changes, so I started to incorporate more nutrients to my everyday life! Some of these I have been taking already, while others — I recently added into my daily regimen. I hope you find these helpful! (follow along on all things motherhood here

CALCIUM: Meeting daily calcium requirements is not only important while pregnant, but throughout all stages of life. My doctor recommended Viactiv Calcium Soft Chews to ensure I’m getting the proper daily calcium intake. I do take a prenatal vitamin, but most of those only provide for about 20-30% of the recommended daily amount of calcium for women who are pregnant. If you aren’t receiving the correct amount of calcium while pregnant, the baby will start to take from your bones which puts your bone health at risk! Baby needs the calcium to build healthy bones, teeth, muscles and heart. As always, talk to your doctor first. 9/10 OB/GYNs recommended Viactiv* which put my nerves at ease. When taken up to twice a day, they provide 1,300mg total of calcium which is 100% of the daily recommended value of calcium needed. Find Viactiv at major retailers including: Target, Walmart, CVS & more! Delicious flavors include milk chocolate and caramel.

PRENATAL: I’ve been taking prenatal vitamins for years. I like that they contain a lot of the vitamins/nutrients that you need for baby in one small chewable. I also knew we wanted to expand our family, so kept taking them to keep my immune system up.

WATER: OK, so perhaps a little obvious but I have not been drinking enough water! It’s so important to stay hydrated (while chasing around a toddler) to keep your body fueled. It’s recommended to drink 8-12 glasses of water a day.

PROTEIN: Pregnant women should be including a good protein source at every meal to help fuel baby’s growth. These foods include meat, poultry, eggs, cheese, milk, nuts and seeds! If you are unable to meet the daily requirement, talk to your doctor about supplements! I have definitely been slacking in this area but enjoyed a delicious steak the other night! Sometimes you gotta indulge!
