Blogging | Trial & Error

Do you ever have those weeks where you’re feeling so down on yourself? It’s as though the days are magnetic, and you can’t pull them apart. Lately, I’ve been questioning the future of my blog, and career. I’m nitpicking some of the most fascinating parts of my life. I have to stop, and remind myself as to why I started Heart of Chic in the first place, and it wasn’t to make money. It was simply to release my creative energy to the universe. (Oh, and to have an excuse to shop more, that too

Heart of Chic just turned one, and quite frankly, I’m proud of my success. I’m learning to stay in my own lane! I keep spending valuable hours on other blogs, and websites – and, for what? To feel discouraged, and disappointment? It’s easy to get lost in others’ success, but it’s even harder to bounce back. Those creative juices are spoiling every single time you compare. Luckily for me (and you, too!) – there are loads of communities that will lift your spirit! Stay focused, determined and hungry – You’re not standing in the same place as you were yesterday. (Although it appears that way, huh?)
I’ve compiled a few blogger tricks I’ve learned throughout the year – Please share your wisdom below! I love hearing from each and every one of you!

Email Fellow Bloggers:
Don’t be shy! Send messages, and ask questions to fellow-bloggers. We’re all on the same team. Shout-out to Blair, Kit, and Erinfor answering my emails with care, and thought. You know that quote, ‘I’m not interested in competing with anyone, I hope we all make it’? Sums up my thoughts on these gals!  You’re an email away from discovering something new 😉
Wasn’t too long ago when I finally attended my first Chicago blogger meet-up! Shortly after, I officially joined ‘WCBC’ – Windy City Blogger Collective, and boy, oh boy, am I glad I did! You know I was 12 months in before attending a blogger group? It’s never too late to jump in, and meet new people. This community is full of never-ending events, vendor opportunities and a great time! If you can’t find one in your area, head one up! Community is key with building your brand! Also, attend conferences — I am attending my first one this September, check it out here. Yay!

Stop Comparing:
I touched on this subject above, so I won’t get too detailed. Just remember that your time is valuable, and everyone travels at his or her own speed. Every single blogger has a unique circumstance, and that’s what makes us so interesting. Visit other blogs with the idea of gaining, not fading.
Create Inspiration Boards:
I am obsessed with Pinterest (you too, right?) – It brings inspiration, and light to my brand. I have private boards that are jumbled with random goodness. I am constantly navigating back — my blogger compass, perhaps?
Content Calendar:
I’m realizing the importance of staying organized! A content (or imagery) calendar is an easy way to stay focused. There have been too many nights where I say to myself, ‘What should I post tomorrow’ – and the ideas are not flowin’ after a long day in the office! Tip: Create a calendar on your day off, so you’re well rested and alert. This will save you time, so you can utilize your energy on the post at hand.
Purchase Equipment:
If you’re passionate about your blog, let the equipment speak for itself. I am finallypurchasing a camera next month, and it’s long overdue. These resources will go a long way, and your photos will shine.

Have Fun!
Obvious, yes, but sometimes, us bloggers are way too serious! (May have something to do with swerving in/out of lanes) Meet new people, explore new places and never stop chasing your daydream. Cheers, dolls! XO
